Guimp
TINY TALENT
.net Magazine – August 2002
It claims to be the world’s smallest web site. Or at least the smallest with a game of Space Invaders. And a drum machine. And a poetry corner. Within four days of the site’s launch, guimp.com received over 450,000 hits, with over 400Mb being downloaded. The whole site is only 300K in total.
WORLD’S SMALLEST WEBSITE
Web User – 27 June – 10 July 2002
Silver Award *****
Great things come in small packages, and this tiny website is surely one of the greatest ever. Built by Alan Outten, who has developed Web User Gold Award-winning sites for Channel 4, the guimp.com site claims to be the world’s smallest website and we have to agree – it’s minute! The site features barely visible versions of Pong, Space Invaders, a drum machine, a piano, a fruit machine and more. It’s one of the most innovative websites we’ve ever seen and we can’t wait for the promised extra features.
MISSING LINKS
Internet Magazine – July 2002
Guimp.com is quite literally the world’s smallest Web site. Occupying a screen space of just 20 by 20 pixels, it offers a collection of classic games, an art gallery, a webcam and numerous other widgets, including a virtual piano and drum kit. Not only is the site available in Flash or plain HTML, but it also offers a surprisingly usable navigation system that makes a lot of more conventional sites look quite shoddy.
SEARCH ENGINE
The Guardian – June 2002
As publicity stunts go, it has worked brilliantly: the World’s smallest Website, has worked its way to the top of blogging lists everywhere. At guimp.com, be prepared to squint like crazy at a tiny little box of colour in the middle of the screen, which contains (if you can get your mouse cursor to hit the right bits) a teeny game of Pong!, a minute haiku, galleries full of icons and artworks, and even a Google search engine.
